La causa primaria dell’aumento di peso è l’assunzione di un numero di calorie più alto di quante se ne consumino. La maggior parte delle persone è attiva da giovane ma, con il passare degli anni, l’attività rallenta. I lavori sedentari, le moderne comodità, i ritmi serrati e la mancanza di interesse per l’attività fisica contribuiscono a creare questo quadro. In genere il metabolismo rallenta con l’età, mentre l’attività di solito diminuisce. Un altro fattore che contribuisce all’aumento di peso è la disponibilità del cibo.
